Another Indian has risen to a prominent position at Google, as CEO Sundar Pichai, also of Indian origin, announced Prabhakar Raghavan as the company's new Chief Technologist. Raghavan had previously served as Google’s Senior Vice President.

In his new role, Raghavan will oversee Google Search, Google Assistant, Geo, Ads, and Commerce search engines.

Nick Fox will now lead Google’s Search and Ads division, overseeing Search, Ads, Geo, and other commercial operations. Upon assuming his new responsibilities, Raghavan acknowledged the challenges ahead, calling it a pivotal moment in his career. He noted that after 12 years in leadership at Google, this appointment allows him to return to his technical roots.

The 64-year-old Prabhakar Raghavan joined Google in 2012 after a tenure at Yahoo. He has worked extensively on search engines, ad ranking systems, and designing the ad marketplace. He also served as Vice President of Google Apps and Google Cloud, where he focused on engineering, products, and user demands.

Following this, he led the Gmail team. In 2018, he took over from Sridhar Ramaswamy as the Senior Vice President of Google’s Search, Assistant, Geo, Ads, Commerce, and Payments divisions. Under his leadership, Google launched AI-driven features like "AI Overview," "Circle to Search," video understanding, and the "Shop What You See" search option.
